Test, don't guess

Fever in Kenya is often treated as malaria by default, but it might be typhoid, a urinary infection or something else entirely. A quick test means the right medicine the first time, and less money spent on treatments that were never going to work.

How to prepare

  • Ask your clinician whether your test needs fasting. Some blood sugar tests do, usually for about 8 hours (water is fine).
  • For urine or stool samples, use only the clean container the lab gives you.
  • Bring the request form if another facility asked for the test.
  • Tell us about any medicines you take, as some can affect results.

General guidance only. Your clinician will tell you about anything specific to you. Full patient guide
